A Fashion Social Enterprise Driving Positive Impact

Jenerous: Fashion That Changes Lives in India

At Jenerous, we believe that fashion should do more than just look good—it should make a difference. As a social enterprise fashion brand, our mission is to create beautiful, ethically made clothing while empowering communities in India. Since our inception, we have been committed to ensuring that every purchase supports Fair Trade clothing principles, sustainable fashion practices, and life-changing opportunities for those who need them most.

Supporting Communities in India Through Ethical Fashion

One of the key ways we give back is through our partnership with The Leprosy Mission’s tailoring training programme in India. This initiative provides skills training and employment opportunities to individuals affected by leprosy, helping them regain independence and dignity. Through this programme, people who have often faced stigma and exclusion can build a sustainable livelihood, supporting themselves and their families with dignity.

With every item purchased, our customers contribute to this vital cause, making a tangible impact on lives across India.

Ethical Fashion That Gives Back

As we start 2025, we are thrilled to announce our latest giving for the last six months of 2024. We donated 320 weeks of training to The Leprosy Mission’s tailoring programme, which will train 6 people on a 12 month tailoring training programme. To date, Jenerous has funded 1,153 weeks of training on a 12-month program, ensuring education and work opportunities for those in need. Your choice to shop with Jenerous is directly transforming lives, and for that, we cannot thank you enough.

Women’s empowerment through fashion - RUMA’s Story

Meet Ruma whose life is being changed through tailoring training at Bankura Vocational Training Centre

Five years ago, Ruma was diagnosed with leprosy. Sadly, the disease had already spread, causing permanent damage. The fingers of her left hand had bent like claws, and she could not straighten them. Through reconstructive surgery, doctors were able to successfully restore function to three of her fingers. Staff told her that once her treatment was complete, she could go to Bankura Vocational Training Centre and learn a trade for free. This would then lead to employment. For the first time, Ruma was hopeful about what lay ahead.

Ruma is now 26, and she is studying sewing technology. She loves her residential course at Bankura. She has made good friends and is excited about her future. When she graduates, she will probably work in a garment factory in Kolkata. Longer-term, she wants to start her own business and return home to her family. She is determined to prove that she can do it on her own. Her father is so happy for her and the opportunity that she has been given.

“Thank you for your amazing kindness that is enabling young people like Ruma to have hope for the future. Because of you, Ruma’s life has been transformed”

Chris Stratta, The Leprosy Mission
